2016. Fourth-grade undergraduate works. Candlestick cultural and creative design

The work is inspired by the stage performance form and thinking core of the Western absurd drama "Waiting for Godot", and draws on the aesthetic form of the traditional Eastern art "bonsai" for appearance design.

In this drama, people are in an era of lack of faith. Godot runs through the whole drama as an abstract form of faith itself. The character is repeated day after day in the life of lack of faith, waiting for a constant cycle, and gradually losing the concept of time and the real sense of living. The tree is a relatively fixed existence in the play. The appearance of leaves symbolizes the flow of time and the birth of hope. Taking the abstract form of dead trees as the main body of the candlestick and the subsidiary candlestick representing the two protagonists, the whole constitutes the performance form of this western drama. Using candles as a medium, when the candlelight that implies hope and faith is ignited, the wax liquid that slides on the withered branches solidifies into new leaves of the withered tree, or it may fall again and again.

The layout and structure of bonsai is divided into three parts: tree, basin and several frames. The candlestick works draw on the layout of trees and basins, and the table top where the candlestick is placed is used as the part of several frames. The abstract dead trees stand in the basin lake filled with thin water, and the melted wax liquid either hangs on the branches or floats on the lake, forming a poetic scenery of "falling flowers and floating water trees facing the pond.

The candlelight lit up, the wax and tears slowly fell, condensed on the dead trees like lush branches, floating in the basin lake like rustling leaves. Between the condensation of the inch of light, one leaf and one withering, one generation and one reincarnation, using Eastern aesthetics to interpret Western drama culture, implying the flow of time and the rise and fall of life, so the title is "condensation and withering".
