YeEun Joo needed a basic understanding of brand and item to collaborate on the Marshall brand and the espresso machine.
In the 1960s, Marshall, located in London, England, was an instrument store selling drums, guitars, and amplifiers. Jim Marshall had grown into a company that developed his own amps. After long time, Marshall was loved by many famous musicians and recorded the brand's history.
The Marshall brand seemed to be forgotten in the IT world, but it was still influential in the field of expertise. In the end, Marshall released Bluetooth speakers to the world in order to maintain popularity. It was a product with IT-ba-sed software while retaining the classic feel of the 1970s and 1980s.
YeEun Joo focused on the design for the IT generation, but for those who love analog. And she was able to find the morphological identity of Marshall in a form followed function, arranged bu-ttons and materials.
Marshall's products also looked like a splendid and magnificent furniture on the stage. ba-sed on this, she carried out the identification.
At first, she designed one head group and changed it into 3 groups to expand the scalability of the product.
On the front, three groups of espresso machine bodies and detailing deco are balanced to give a magnificent impression.
The combination of stainless steel and leather is also found in Marshall's product identity.
On the back, there is a group head with a touch-sensitive display that combines bu-ttons in the panel and the group head that were only available for extraction before.
There are basic espresso 1,2 shots, ristretto, lungo, manual bu-tton on the display. And It shows the extraction temperature and extraction time, as well as the visualization of the stage from extraction to completion. It has boiler pressure gauge and hot water pressure gauge.
The upper tray has a vent hole that discharges the heat of the boiler inside, and it keeps the cup warm.
Basically this design has the function of an espresso machine that we know. But YeEun Joo had efforts to balanced the elements of Marshall's identity, classical and digital.
