I suddenly wanted to make an interesting design for my little niece. The goal was very clear: to design a tool that can really stimulate children's interest in observing nature, not just a toy.
🔍Design Insights
The traditional children's magnifying glass has obvious pain points: fragile, single function, and children are easy to lose interest. What we want to do is to create a safe, durable "hardware carrier" that will continue to generate freshness.
🔥Design value thinking
The final delivery of this design is not a "finished product", but an open exploration system. It gives the right to choice and discovery back to the child through very low interaction costs, allowing the tool to adapt to curiosity, rather than limiting it.
A good design for children may be to find that clever balance between safety and freedom.. ------------------
Project:Modular Explorer | Children's Magnifier
Design By:Leo
(Welcome peer exchange, cooperation private letter)
This is the soul of design. We have created a simple "push-card" structure that allows children to safely and easily replace the lens module themselves.
Three functional lens designs:
High-definition magnifying glass: to meet the needs of basic observation.
Grille mirror: Segmenting the field of view to inspire structural cognition.
· Prism lens: produce rainbow under the light, inject unexpected surprise.
One silicone molding structure
Safety is an absolute priority: the whole body is soft and without hard corners, and can be bent and bitten at will.
The rounded shape is integrated with the handle, which is in line with children's grasping habits and has become the visual memory point of the product.
Design blank: Modular interfaces allow for future extensions (e. g. filters, mirrors) to extend the product lifecycle.
