"Kaiwen Looking at Design Series"-A New Chapter in 2020
Product Name: UK Pavilion
Designer: Thomas Heswick
Design Time: 2010
Which pavilion do you still have an impression of the Shanghai World Expo? Does seeing the British pavilion in the picture remind you of the amazing memories of seeing it ten years ago?
The design of the British Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, which shocked the world, was that Thomas Heswick used the concept of a natural organic form of a "seed temple" to conquer the eyes of Shanghai World Expo officials and the public, and defeated the "Devil" Zaha A group of design bosses including Hadid.
This design subverts the traditional architectural model. A huge "dandelion" building is composed of more than 60,000 light-transmitting acrylic rods, each 7.5 meters long, connecting the inside and outside.
At the other end, the Millennium Seed Bank Project of Sino-British cooperation -250,000 seeds of different types and shapes, inspired by the growth of plants and combined with the current situation of efficient development of modern cities to create a beautiful "seed temple".
The wonderful design showed an amazing beauty, attracting tourists to stop and take photos.
Later, this unique "dandelion" not only won Thomas a real international reputation, but also became one of the biggest surprises and highlights of the Shanghai World Expo.
Through the light transmission of transparent acrylic, outdoor light is introduced into the house. If a cloud happens to float across the sky☁, indoor people can also feel the change of light, this experience is really incomparable!
At the 2010 World Expo, Thomas Heswick was only 39 years old. What kind of genius designer would it take to reach his height at this age? Let's appreciate his masterpiece again!
