Op. 1

"Tiankeng Floor Drain" is a landscape art work related to unique geological characteristics. The creation of the work is located in the village of Yubu Luzhai in southwest China. Yubu Luzhai is a natural village in Qingshuihe Town, Xingyi City, Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is 20 kilometers away from Xingyi City and is a "paradise" in Qianxinan Prefecture ".

Op. 2

The area where Yubu Lu is located is a typical Kashgar landform. The stockade is built in a sky pit with a relative drop of 610 meters. The sky pit is in the shape of a trumpet flower. A large number of century-old buildings have been well preserved in this stockade. Some houses have not even dug deep foundation and are built on the original stone slab.

The land around the village is fertile and the trees are lush. During this period, fertile fields, mountain springs, stone houses, ancient trees, old wells, karst caves, bamboo repair, ancient river roads, ancient Yingpan and ancient tea-horse roads are set off in a harmonious and natural way to build a paradise surrounded by mountains.

The "funnel" wall is paved radially with local shale, and dense radiation gathers to the bottom of the cave, creating a strong sense of inhalation. The black hole at the bottom of the "funnel" seems to be full of mysterious power and danger, and curiosity will prompt people to go to the bottom to find out.

The location of the work of "Tiankeng Floor Drain"

The houses in Yubu Luzhai are built along the extension of Tiankeng, and the middle of the Tiankeng is a large area of open farmland. According to the old man in the village, more than ten years ago, every torrential rain and extreme weather, the rain from the surrounding mountains would gather into the tiankeng, and the farmland in the tiankeng would be submerged by the rain and become a "lake". After about four or five days, the rain would dissipate on its own, and the "lake" would turn back into a field.

Characteristics of Rain-supplemented Lu Land

The secret of the rapid dissipation of rain is that there are four openings in the sinkhole, which are called "sinkholes" by the local people. The "sinkholes" are equivalent to the "floor drain" of farmland, which leads directly to the underground river, and the rainwater collected by the rainstorm flows away through the underground river. Due to the continuous drought in recent years, the rainfall and rainfall intensity have been significantly reduced and weakened, and the magical scene of "the field becomes the lake, the lake becomes the field" has been difficult to reproduce.

Create concept sketches

At present, the "falling cave" has been hidden by weeds and miscellaneous trees. Without the guidance of the local people, it is difficult for tourists and visitors to find these magical "falling cave", and even more can not imagine its magical water elimination function. It is conceivable that after the passage of time, the relationship between "Luoshuidong" and the village will eventually be forgotten.

Tiankeng Floor Drain-Section

The creative intention of this work is to use an enlarged "funnel" to strengthen the geological characteristics and historical memory of the field. The space shape is funnel-shaped, with the upper edge diameter of 9 meters and the depth of 2.4 meters, the lower edge opening diameter of 1 meter and the lower edge opening depth of 1 meter. A hole drainage with a diameter of 30cm is reserved on the bottom side wall. The hole leads directly to the underground river. In case of heavy rain and extreme weather, the floor drain will show better drainage function.

Villagers involved in construction and production

The construction and production of this work is completed by local stonemasons. Interestingly, these people involved in the construction and production are basically a family, and they are all skilled craftsmen with outstanding local skills.
