Product name: own dye
Product Overview: Plastic products are often associated with mass production. However, one can stick to personal tastes while enjoying the low cost of mass production of plastics. "Dye yourself" embodies this concept and brings a new status to plastic products. This plastic table is made of a special "porous plastic" with a surface that absorbs water. This material is commonly used in industrial applications, but is rarely used in everyday consumer goods. The design focused on the porous nature of the plastic, reinterpreting the material as it could be dyed into plastic.
Each mass-produced Dye It Yourself plastic table can be hand-dyed personally and uniquely, using dyes derived from natural dyes such as safflower, cherry blossom and Japanese indigo. These beautiful and varied colors and tones change the uniform surface of the plastic, giving it a textile-like appeal. This colorful presence also transcends the fixed boundaries between typical mass production and handmade goods.
Mass-produced goods that were meant to be identical can now become objects that are unique due to the personal expression of each user. This proposition reconstructs the concept of mass production and the relationship between mass-produced goods and consumers.
