When the ancient stone-paved streets of Jiangnan meet bronze sculptures, history and culture take on a tangible form. This project customizes two groups of scene cast copper sculptures for the ancient town of Suzhou, one moving and one static, echoing each other, telling the story of the south of the Yangtze River, which belongs to this land alone, in the street space.
"Kicking the shuttlecock" group sculpture to shape the moment of three young girls playing, to capture the shuttlecock when the smart stretch posture. The figure is light and elegant, the body dynamics are rhythmic, and the lines of the clothes are natural and smooth, as if the shuttlecock will rise and fall in the air in the next second. The three girls looked fresh and vivid, and their scattered positions built a layered interactive scene, restoring the old market picture of girls playing in the streets of Jiangnan, and solidifying the lively fireworks in the cast copper. The delicate texture of cast copper retains the folds of clothes and facial expressions intact. Visitors passing by are easily moved by this vigorous youthful appeal.
In contrast, the bronze statue of Eileen Chang stands as a serene expression of humanistic art. The figure sits calmly on a traditional Chinese wooden chair, their posture composed, their gaze deep and far-reaching, quietly fixed ahead. The pleats of the cheongsam are tactfully soft, fitting the character's temperament, condensing out the calm, keen and story sense that belongs to Eileen Chang. The statue has no strong dynamic, but has a quiet power, which forms a sharp contrast with the lively group sculpture of kicking shuttlecock. The lively fireworks in the world and the introverted and deep thoughts of the literati meet here.
The two groups of sculptures are made of cast copper, from clay sculpture to casting and coloring, and each process is polished manually. The cast copper material is weather-resistant and durable. With the passage of time, the copper material will slowly form a warm and moist slurry with the environment, which will blend with the temperament of the old buildings and ancient streets of the ancient town, and the more it precipitates, the more lasting appeal.
In the planning of the tour route of the ancient town, two groups of sculptures are divided into street spaces to form an emotional rhythm. Tourists first meet the vivid picture of young girls playing and feel the fireworks and children's interest in Jiangnan city. Then I met the statue of Zhang Ailing sitting quietly and settled down to read the cultural details of Jiangnan. One joy, one stillness, one vulgarity and one elegance make the ancient town no longer just a scenery clock-in place, but an outdoor humanities exhibition hall with story levels, allowing visitors to walk between and immerse themselves in the charm of crossing time in the south of the Yangtze River.
