Two geometric origami sculptures were born in Billy Lee International Creation Camp. They interpret the urban texture and flowing scenery respectively with the minimalist sculpture language of folding, folding and arc, and construct contemporary space aesthetics.
The work "Modern City" uses sharp folding surfaces and vertical geometric blocks to construct the urban image. Black and white lines are re-carved to divide the facades of high-rise buildings, and the tough folding structure is stacked and erected. The neat and multi-fold sections simulate the edges and corners of the building, and the staggered and towering shapes reflect the dense, regular and orderly urban forest of the modern city. The sharp geometric lines convey the cold and hard texture of the fast-paced city, and refine the abstract core of the urban architecture with the pure folding form.
"Folding View" combines straight folds with soft curved arcades, a touch of warm orange to break the pure white restraint. The folded geometry represents the artificial landscape, the smooth arch arc symbolizes the natural curve, and the rigid folding surface is intertwined with the soft curved surface, just like the folded scenery in the city. The folding technique becomes the medium connecting the artificial construction and the natural artistic conception, one cold and one warm, one folding and one arc forming the visual balance.
The two works are homologous origami modeling logic, one is about the urban skeleton, the other is about the natural interest, and the symbiotic relationship between man-made space and natural scenery is discussed with the minimalist abstract form.
