Only by extraordinary glass craftsmanship can this amazing glass art work come out!
Yamato Sato and his Nendo studio can always bring us fresh ideas.
The highly productive Sato Yamato and his team can almost complete more than 100 design projects every year, involving different design fields such as products, interiors, image recognition systems, exhibitions, food, etc.
Both the performance at the Milan exhibition and the daily design works have attracted much attention. The light, concise and humorous design style has made Sato a new representative of Japanese design.
At the beginning of 2019, Sato University brought his new work "melt" gravity-generated furniture and desktop products to the exhibition of Cologne International Furniture Fair in 2019.
This series is made of molten glass in cooperation with Venice glass manufacturers and manufacturing experts wonderglass.
Sato University got inspiration when observing people working with this molten material in the workshop. The main design concept is to let the molten glass use gravity and the weight of the glass itself to flow to form a "curved" form.
The company is good at glass casting, using special technology to remove the flexible material from the mold, and then further processing it by hand.
During the production process, the molten glass is first poured into a square frame, in which many craftsmen use iron trowels to smooth the surface at the same time. The glass gradually cools, and after reaching a certain degree of flexibility, move it and place it on a U-shaped mold or its inverted shape, so that the glass slowly sinks or stretches to form a beautiful arch. Even during this molding process, craftsmen will use tools to shape the arches to ensure that there are no bends or cracks.
This curved glass technique is used to design armchairs, tables, vases, etc. Since the arches and curves are caused by the weight and viscosity of the glass itself, this collection is named "melting".
After reading Sato's design, we often sigh, "It can really be like this. Why didn't I think of it. 」 This is the difference between designers and the general public. They pay attention to every bit of life, constantly dare to break the routine and break through the existing rules and regulations. Only in this way can such amazing works come out!
