Introduction: The forward-looking conceptual design of vehicles is an important link in the research and development strategy of automobile OEMs. Focusing on the next five, ten, or even longer-term time span, exploring new travel modes that conform to the development trend of society and science and technology is the work content of the forward-looking conceptual design project. For the traditional automotive conceptual design process, the addition of digital technology is also changing the original design work mode. As the premise of the digital design process, the digital representation method has given birth to new creative exploration paths, design review methods and teamwork mechanisms.
The conceptual design project recorded in this paper comes from the "ICCG" concept exploration project of SAIC GM participated in by the author. The design process of this project lasted 6 months and was completed by the author in the prospective design department of SAIC GM Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center in the form of internship. SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM) is an automobile company jointly funded by Shanghai Automotive Group and General Motors. It mainly undertakes the design and development tasks of Buick and other automobile brands under the General Motors Group, as well as the production and operation of its models in China. SAIC GM's "ICCG" concept event is a forward-looking conceptual design exploration project initiated by SAIC GM (SAIC-GM)'s Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center. Through the selection of several students in colleges and universities, they enter the Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center through internships to participate in the design process of the internal concept car.
The purpose of the "ICCG" concept event is to explore the potential development direction and design solution space of intelligent transportation ecology in the future through the project form of rapid concept proposal. The main content of the project is that, first of all, through the interpretation of the "ICCG" task book and the study of travel design trends, the concept of smart travel that meets the demands of Buick's sporty and younger brand image is proposed; further, on the basis of subdivision surface modeling and characterization, Through the design theme exploration, design iteration, engineering model inversion, color and material design design methods, the design concept is improved, and the final design solution is produced, through the digital representation of video storyboard, real-time rendering, VR virtual reality and three-dimensional rendering animation, combined with small-scale hard models for multiple rounds of design review, the design evaluation of the design scheme is completed.
