Old worker: Have you ever encountered a design bottleneck in your excellent career?

Naoto Fukasawa: No, I can make designs at any time. Every day there will be a lot of ideas, if one day in the future I have no ideas, then I may not be able to live, ha, ha, ha

Old Worker: From what angle do you usually start to visualize design?

Naoto Fukasawa: I usually consider the products that best meet these situations according to time, life scenes and some specific current situations. Of course, we should also consider the requirements of the people who entrust us to do the design, but we pay more attention to the items that are needed in our life, which is our priority.

Old Worker: Did your experience in the United States have any influence on your design?

Naoto Fukasawa: Going to the United States is not what you want to learn in the United States, but hope that your design can be more global, and you want to understand what kind of design people in other countries need. In traveling all over the world, there are many things that can arouse my thinking and give me a lot of inspiration.

However, I am surprised why many designers do not know what they like at first, but only know what they like after accumulating certain experience.

Old Worker: In your "Naoto Fukasawa. The book "Figurative" learned that when you were in the United States, you built a house of your own. Is the impact of handmade making on your design important? Now most of our designers use computers to assist their own design, this way, is not very good for the growth of young designers?

Naoto Fukasawa: it is important to create by hand, but the works designed by myself should also be done by hand, so that the whole production process can be clear. The small room I made is a very good experience for me. Using software to design is also a way of design. There is no big problem, but it is also very important to try to make it by hand. This way cannot be stopped.

Old Worker: Most of your works are items commonly used by people, and many projects in China now involve AI, will people's lives and ideologies change in the future because of AI? What changes should designers make in their lives in the future?

Naoto Fukasawa: AI is already designing. They use some data and will be faster. In my opinion, designers and AI should not be a competitive relationship, but a coexistence relationship. AI is intelligent, it is not very good at making some unexpected design. For example, designing a bowl. When the designed bowl is broken, the designer may find another design possibility, but AI will not.

In the future, if AI has been integrated into people's daily life, the situation may be the opposite, and the things designed by human beings may become more precious. Maybe the words that are not designed by AI will appear on the goods later, just like the organic food now.

Old Worker: Do you have any suggestions for young designers now?

Naoto Fukasawa: The design enthusiasm of young designers is very high, but they may need to consider that they do not design what they want to design, but what they need in their current life, which is the best product for users. This is what I want to see. In fact, design is not only used to show one's own behavior.
